How to Vote in the 2026 Shepherdstown Election

Shepherdstown residents will have three ways to participate in the Town’s June 2, 2026, municipal election:
1. Absentee voting 2. Early in-person voting 3. Voting on election day at Town Hall.

1. Absentee Voting 

All eligible voters—including regular, overseas, and military voters—may request an absentee ballot by mail between January 1 – May 27, 2026.

Important Dates to remember for absentee voters — 

  • Absentee Applications open: January 1, 2026
  • Deadline to Apply for an Absentee Ballot: May 27, 2026
  • Absentee Ballots are mailed to those who request a ballot: April 17 – May 27
  • Hand-delivered Absentee Ballots will be accepted at Town Hall until: June 1
  • Mailed Absentee Ballots accepted:
    1. Without postmark if received by June 3
    2. With Election Day postmark if received by June 8

2. Early In-Person Voting

— To take place at Town Hall (104 North King St.): 

  • Early voting (during the week): May 20–May 30, 2026 (8am – 4:30pm)
  • Early voting (Saturdays): May 23 and May 30,2026 (9am – 5pm)

3. Election Day at Town Hall

  • Tuesday, June 2, 2026
  • In-person voting location: Shepherdstown Town Hall
  • Hours: 6:30am–7:30pm (standard WV municipal hours)

Additionally, the Town will publish the Sample Ballot twice:

  • First publication: Between May 7–13
  • Second publication: Between May 26–June 1

These publications allow voters to review the ballot before heading to the polls.
