Town crews are actively responding to today’s winter storm, and operations are proceeding as planned.
Streets and Plowing: Plows are working to remove snow throughout downtown, including side streets and alleys. Plowing will continue today and into this evening. The Town will start removing snow to make way for parking on German and Princess streets early Monday.
Frozen Water Pipes: Several residents have reported frozen pipes today. To reduce the possibility of freezing pipes, please run a small amount of cold water continuously if your water pipes are exposed or lack insulation, particularly during very cold weather as is forecast over the next several days. If you do experience frozen water pipes or lose water service, please call Town Hall at 304-876-2312 or the Water Department at 304-876-2394.
Sidewalk Clearing: Residents and business owners are reminded to keep sidewalks in front of their homes and businesses clear to help ensure safe passage for pedestrians.
Emergency Aid: Call 911 in case of an emergency. Don’t hesitate to reach out to Town Hall at 304-876-2312 and the Police Department at 304-725-8484 (non-emergency) for assistance as well.
— As previously announced, the Town’s volunteer crew will meet in front of Town Hall tomorrow at 8am to begin assisting residents who are unable to shovel or clear their sidewalks. If you would like to request assistance with sidewalk clearing, please send a note to comments@shepherdstown.us or call Town Hall on 304-876-2312. Volunteers will help prioritize areas of greatest need. We welcome more volunteers to help with sidewalk clearing. Please send a note or call Town Hall to volunteer.
Be Careful! The most recent forecast calls for continued freezing rain and/or snow through at least 8pm this evening. Residents are encouraged to use caution, limit travel, and allow crews time to continue clearing streets and sidewalks.
Thank you for your cooperation and patience. Stay safe, stay warm, and when possible, enjoy the winter weather!
