Spring Clean-Up Week Scheduled for May 4–8

The Town of Shepherdstown will hold its annual Spring Clean-Up Week from May 4 – May 8, 2026, providing Town residents and businesses with an opportunity to dispose of large and unwanted items.

Participants are asked to limit disposal to one pickup load per residence or business and to place items at their regular trash collection location. All metal materials should be separated from other items.

Accepted items at no charge include furniture, mattresses, general household items, yard waste, and metal items.

For paint disposal, residents should use a product such as Krud Kutter Paint Hardener to solidify any full or partially full cans. Once hardened, lids should be removed before placement for collection.

Certain items require a fee, which must be paid in advance at Town Hall, located at 104 North King Street. These include appliances containing Freon (such as refrigerators, air conditioning units, and dehumidifiers) at $50 each, microwaves at $25 each, passenger tires under 15 inches at $20 each, passenger tires 15 inches and over at $25 each, and televisions at $40 each.

The following items will not be accepted during Spring Clean-Up Week: propane, oil, or gas tanks; compressed gas cylinders; fluorescent light bulbs; building materials such as concrete, dirt, rock, or sod; batteries; hazardous or medical waste; unhardened paint cans; and electronics other than televisions.

For questions or additional information, please contact Town Hall at (304) 876-2312 during regular office hours, Monday through Friday, 8am – 4:30pm.
