Accepting Applications for Town of Shepherdstown Magistrate

The Town of Shepherdstown is seeking qualified applicants for appointment as a Town Magistrate. Interested individuals must submit a letter of interest and qualifications no later than June 26, 2026, to Shepherdstown Town Hall, 104 North King Street, Shepherdstown, WV, 25443, or email clerk@shepherdstown.gov.

Magistrates serve an important role in the Town's municipal court system and may be called upon to issue arrest warrants, summonses, and set bonds in accordance with West Virginia law and the Shepherdstown Code on an on-call, as-needed basis. Magistrates receive a small stipend of up to $50 for each case.

Applicants who are not admitted to practice law in West Virginia must complete the required municipal court training course.  

Appointments are for a term of up to one year.

Applicants are not required to be residents of the Town of Shepherdstown.
