Town of Shepherdstown Historic Preservation Internship

The Town of Shepherdstown is eager to host one or more part-time paid interns to assist Town staff and the town Historic Landmarks Commission with the following important tasks:

  • Maintain the Town online electronic database of structures in the Shepherdstown Historic District. Review and update the descriptions, develop new details where needed, and write detailed information about all structures that are not currently included in the database.
  • Develop a “frequently asked questions” resource for use by real estate professionals, property owners, residents, and others who own property in the historic district and those who are exploring purchasing property in the district.
  • Perform general research on historic preservation practices and policy including current practices in Shepherdstown and the region.

The ideal candidates will have strong interests in historic preservation policy and administration. Candidates must be current Shepherd University students who have  completed at least 6 hours of classwork in historic preservation and/or related topics.

Details:

  • The Town will hire one or more Shepherd University students as paid interns for the remainder of the fall 2025 semester and/or winter and spring 2026 semesters.
  • Selected candidates should work at least 15 hours per week under the internship.  (The number of hours and location — whether in-person or remote — are both negotiable). Additional time may be available during semester breaks.  
  • Selected candidates will be paid approximately $15.00 - $20.00 per hour to start (The pay rate is negotiable).
